I love how Timothy Barrett talks about paper in this article from the New York Times Magazine, February 19, 2012: Can a Papermaker Help to Save Civilization?

In a Shifting Landscape
I am working on a letterpress artists book that is a long-distance collaboration between me and Seattle-based composer Nat Evans. The inspiration for the book came from a series of email exchanges that the two of us had over a period of several months. Both of us deal with natural phenomena in our own work so it seemed like a perfect place to come together.
In a Shifting Landscape explores the connections between geographic locations (tundra, desert, prairie, and ocean), seasons, migration, and concepts of time in the natural world. The book will be an accordion fold structure printed on vellum with imagery transforming throughout the book. The music is based on abstractions of weather and landscape, birdcalls, expressions of deep ecology, and utilizes field recordings to link the landscapes and different movements together.
This is a really ambitious project for me and my first time using many of these materials. The vellum doesn’t like to fold so I will have to reinforce every fold in the accordion structure (each book will be about 12 feet long when extended fully). I was determined to use the vellum because of the semi-transparent qualities and the layering effect that it creates is important to the work. This is also my first time printing reductive cut linoleum blocks. You can see the beginnings of the process below. I will be printing various other semi-transparent layers over the top of the linoleum blocks using photopolymer plates. I will post more photographs as I progress!
The run is a small edition of 20 books. Ultimately, the book will be turned into an animated video and screened along with a live performance of the score. The debut is set for September 9 at Chapel Performance Space in Seattle.

AHOY!
I printed these back in March (and am finally posting photos – you know how that goes).
I got some new (to me) wood type that is about two inches tall, and found some great vintage, metal printing blocks of sailboats that I LOVE. A set of four or five nautical themed cards are in the works; here is the first one:
